Camping Ganspoort: where the neighbourhood comes together

Rotsoord: as I walk up, for a moment I feel as if I'm in Austria. Almdudler sun loungers. Who didn't bring Almdudler and Origina home after their holidays back in the day? Camping Ganspoort: the name is tongue-in-cheek. Sadly it's not a real city campsite, but it is a kind of campsite reception, meeting place and table-tennis table rolled into one, where everyone loves to come together, have fun and enjoy themselves, all in a very relaxed, welcoming way.

Camping Ganspoort

Camping Ganspoort is an asset to Utrecht. It's different from the rest. Not just hip and Instagram-worthy. There's an anything-goes mentality. That attracts people with young children. Children can play, and there's room to come in with your pushchair. And you don't have to feel embarrassed if your child isn't eating with a knife and fork for a moment, or doesn't want to eat and makes that known very loudly. Parking and access via Vaartsche Rijn station are good too.

Rotsoord

Asked what Camping Ganspoort's best-kept secret is, she answers: the Almdudler and Origina. They give you a bit of a holiday feeling. Then she changes her mind. The location: that's the best-kept secret. When she was asked to come and work at Camping Ganspoort, she couldn't quite imagine that this would become a fun, buzzing place. Now there are lots of nice places to eat and drink, the terraces are packed in good weather and it really is a lovely place. Together with the entrepreneurs' association, they want to make the location greener.

Best-kept secret

The best-kept secret is the canoe hire on the Krommerijn. If you think you really know Utrecht well, you should actually go and see Utrecht from a canoe on the canal. Then Utrecht is even more beautiful.

Desiree expects the neighbourhood to be just as popular as Wittevrouwen, Oudwijk and the Vogelenbuurt in five years' time. But she does think it will stay more diverse and creative.
