In this housing market, you can't always land that atmospheric 1930s home with stained-glass windows and panelled doors, or that property from 1900 with those beautiful ornamental ceilings. It might well end up being a 1970s home or a new-build. Also super nice and cool, but some of us find it harder to make a home like that warm and cosy. Sometimes just a few simple changes make a big difference. That way you can make your house more personal and give it a character all of its own. A house isn't a home yet. How do you turn a house into a home? We're happy to give you some tips and tricks!

Sofa
The sofa plays an important role in the home: it is the place where we relax and come together. A sofa lets you accentuate your interior style, but it also says something about the people who live there and their character. Do you like a clear, tidy and calm interior? Then go for a sleek, basic sofa in a light colour. Do you like trendy and eye-catching? Then the sofa becomes a real showpiece in the living room if you choose velvet upholstery, finished off with lots of cushions and a striking throw. For a big family or lots of visitors, a large (corner) sofa is a good idea: a sofa that is practical as well as beautiful and can take a knock. Lively residents go for a sofa in colour, a striking statement that radiates cosiness. Lots of home accessories reinforce this effect. Moving from a small house to a big one? Then you can even mix styles and put two sofas in one living room. Finding it hard to choose? Get advice!

Photos
Personal photos make an interior your own and unique. From pictures of loved ones and special moments to holiday memories. But there are more ways to show your favourite photos than in a frame on the wall or in a cabinet. Adapt the look and colour to your interior style and taste. For example, create a photo wall for an extra eye-catching effect. Print the pictures on sturdy paper or card and make a mood board of memories, or go for a sleek, more graphic art-wall effect.

Bedroom
Nothing is as personal as the bedroom. But it is often also a storage place for clothes, shoes and the laundry. Make sure you have enough storage space and leave only your most beautiful clothes on view by hanging them on a clothes rail or a nice hanger. Paint the walls in calm, friendly colours. Using colour or (textured) wallpaper adds more depth and strengthens the feeling of intimacy and security. Let a few favourite colours come back in accessories and the bedding so that everything forms one whole. Bedding made from a natural material such as linen is not only very comfortable, it also gives the bedroom a more relaxed and therefore more personal look.

Still life
Styling plays an important role in the look and personality of your interior. Don't just use the standard home accessories from the shop for this. Create a still life of special finds, souvenirs and objects. Add a few vases and candlesticks from your favourite interior shop. By playing with different heights, materials and textures, you create a unique and exciting effect. The windowsill, a side table, a niche or a sideboard all lend themselves well to a personal still life.

Made-to-measure cupboards
Using a made-to-measure cupboard is not only very practical, it also gives a home a face and character all of its own. You can make optimal use of every bit of space and every corner, something you usually can't do with standard furniture and sizes. Besides storage space, think of an integrated workspace or a room divider, for example. Make sure it fits well with the architectural style and overall look of the home. Professionally made built-in and made-to-measure cupboards in high-quality materials also add value to your house!
