Gloriosa, a cosy Utrecht florist

Gloriosa, a Utrecht florist

Last year I walked into Rachelle's shop for the first time. I had to buy flowers for a photo shoot for a house I'd been asked to sell. At the same time, between appointments, I desperately needed the loo. A little embarrassed, I asked Rachelle if that was OK. For Rachelle it was no problem at all. She immediately made a beautiful bouquet; I went to pay and thought I really hadn't heard right. Two fantastic wildflower bouquets and two hydrangeas, and I only had to pay €31.50. I couldn't understand it. I walked out of the shop cheerful about the friendliness and the price. I secretly thought: these flowers can never last long for this price. But nothing could be further from the truth. Sometimes the bouquets last up to 3 weeks. So of course you can understand that I now always go to Rachelle at Gloriosa for my flowers.

Family business

Rachelle tells me that the grandfather of her partner Michel started out as a flower trader. In the old-fashioned way, he travelled all over the country with a cart. About 50 years ago he started the shop. After that, Michel's parents took over the shop, and for the past two years the flower shop has belonged to Rachelle and Michel. It's a real family business, and she hopes their son will want to carry it on in a few years' time.

Utrecht

For Rachelle, the most beautiful spot in Utrecht really is Ondiep. Utrecht is special because it's so central. On top of that, Utrechters are honest and sincere. You can count on Utrechters in difficult times, but also in good times.

Gloriosa

Gloriosa makes Utrecht a little nicer and cosier, because the colourful flowers and plants cheer you up. They display the flowers and plants outside as much as possible. My own experience is that the flower shop really feels like a village florist. She knows which flowers her customers love and what suits them, and requests (plants and flowers) are always taken care of for you.

Florist Ondiep

For the cosy atmosphere you'd want to buy your flowers from Rachelle and Michel every week, but because of the quality you really only need to buy a new bouquet once every two weeks.
