Interior trends of 2022

Interior styling

Interior trends 2022. Do you still have a few days off? A brand-new year lies ahead of us. What are this year's interior trends? You look back and you look ahead. A year in which we were at home a lot, and a coming year in which we'll probably be at home more than we'd like for a while yet. So you'd better make sure you have a nice home. A new year, new trends and maybe even a new home? Do you want to furnish and style your home entirely according to the trends of 2022? Then read the trends below.

Colourful 90s

One of the interior trends of 2022 is an optimistic, colourful trend with a touch of humour. Think of the colours yellow, turquoise and various shades of green. Not just as accents and in home accessories, but also in the larger pieces of furniture. Striking colours combine well with grey and beige tones if you want to start from a neutral base. Do you love colour and are you daring? Then go for a whole room in colour and paint the walls and even the ceiling in a striking colour with a beautiful matt finish. This sounds intense, but when you paint everything in the same colour, it actually creates calm.

A quirky colour palette goes with bold shapes and special furniture and accessories. Also think of new techniques such as 3D-printed small furniture and accessories, and 3D fabrics that give more depth depending on how the light falls on them. Combine stools and poufs in different colours, heights and materials for a playful effect. Not only beautiful, but also very practical. Poufs and stools are multifunctional and can be used as extra seating or as a side table.

Art and accessories are important within this trend. Street art and nineties pop music lead the way here. Think of graffiti and graphic elements such as letters and numbers, but also neon lamps and light boxes. This immediately gives your interior a unique character.

Blue-on-blue

In times of uncertainty, the home as a safe and comfortable base is extra important. A place to unwind and recharge. Blue is a good (base) colour for all activities in the home: from relaxing to working and studying. In this trend, various shades of blue come together. Mainly light blues with a greyed undertone, combined with robust indigo and concrete grey. Do you like more contrast? Then add black accessories for more depth.

Blue-on-blue tones go perfectly with natural materials such as black-stained and light woods, airy linen, lively leathers and artisan ceramics. The contrast between materials is also beautiful: concrete with soft fabrics such as wool and suede. By using fabrics with a somewhat coarser texture you create a little more tension; think of coarse cotton and canvas. This 2022 interior trend fits in with sustainable living and is reminiscent of minimalist, yet warm and comfortable Scandinavian interiors.

Earth tones

For this trend, nature is the great inspiration. Warm earth tones are combined with naturals such as warm grey, sand and anthracite. We combine many activities at home, and working from home seems to be here to stay for many people. So in hectic times it's extra welcome to create an inviting place of calm at home. A place to withdraw for a while and cocoon. Think of a lounge chair by the window, a daybed in the conservatory or a bedroom without the stimuli of mobile phones, laptops or TV.

A calm, unpretentious base with soft, strokable fabrics that feel like a warm blanket. This combined with smooth plasterwork, walls in matt lime paint and natural materials such as natural stone. Furniture and accessories have an artisan finish and look. For an extra luxurious feel, add gold or brass details. Personal (art) objects, photos and vintage finds give the room even more character and personality.

Sculpture

The round shapes come from the 70s style and are increasingly being used in different interior styles and furniture designs. It goes further than just rounded corners and edges, small furniture or accessories. The round and oval shape for the dining table, for example, is completely back. Not only beautiful but also practical when you live in a slightly smaller home. A round table can easily stand freely in the room and allows extra seating. What's more, you keep more wall free for a sense of space or to place a wall unit for extra storage.

(Corner) sofas get a friendlier look without right angles and straight lines. A round sofa is also easier to place freely in a room, because the sofa is beautifully finished all the way round. Gorgeous as a striking statement in a larger room. Finish it off completely with a soft, round rug.

Terracotta

Terracotta is a warm, inviting colour that cheers you up, even on the greyest and cloudiest days. Want to create a Mediterranean feel in your kitchen? Combine this colour with wood, rattan, special souvenirs and ceramic cooking accessories. Go for a statement and paint an entire wall in warm terracotta, or instead combine different shades with a matt finish to create a powdery tone-on-tone effect. Beautiful in combination with natural stone, such as white marble.

The colour terracotta fits well into a base of warm grey, warm white and beige tones. For an extra inviting atmosphere, set the table with an oversized linen tablecloth and your finest crockery. Handmade ceramics and coloured glassware fit perfectly into this trend. Don't hold back and go for an abundance of natural greenery as styling: from small plants and wild flowers to loose green branches. Guaranteed success for an atmospheric lunch or dinner at home.

Teddy fabrics

We've been seeing soft teddy fabrics in fashion for a while, but in interiors too this trend is catching on more and more. And this applies not only to home accessories such as cushions, throws and poufs. Sofas and armchairs can also be upholstered entirely in this fabric. A teddy armchair you'd want to disappear into for a comfortable and luxurious moment's pause.

This strokable fabric with a fluffy texture is warm and breathable and easy to combine with other materials. Do you like a subdued and soft look? Then combine this fabric with greyed colour tones and other soft fabrics and materials. Do you prefer something more rugged and industrial? Furniture and accessories made of teddy fabrics go well with the so-called cooler materials such as metal, concrete and natural stone. This creates a beautiful contrast and makes the texture of the fabric stand out even more.
