I used to live on the east side of the city. I mainly went to the Wilhelminapark & the Griftpark. I actually never came to the Julianapark. But it pleasantly surprised me. How lovely it is here. What a wonderful place for an evening stroll, picking up an ice cream at The Sandwich Company. The Julianapark: a park with the grandeur of the Wilhelminapark, the social side of the Lepelenburg & the sports facilities and animals of the Griftpark. The chickens roam freely in the park, sometimes even by the houses around it.

The Julianapark is the oldest park in Utrecht. The park was laid out in 1903. The history of the Julianapark begins with the Kol family. In 1903 the Kol family commissioned the firm Copijn to lay out the land around the farm as a park. Everyone in the area knows the park as Kol's garden. In 1928 the heirs sold the park to the Municipality of Utrecht. They would only sell the park on condition that it remained a park for at least 100 years. The municipality gave the garden the name Julianapark. A public park for all the people of Utrecht.

The Julianapark has it all. Beautiful greenery, no cyclists, but people enjoying nature. There are fences around the park, so it's not possible to hang out in the park until the small hours. The park is divided into 3 parts.
- The animal meadow. Here you can admire the fallow deer and other animals. You can get a drink at the Antje Drijver pavilion.
- A recreational part with a large meadow, a stage hill for cultural activities and a water and sand play area.
- A quiet part with winding paths and monumental trees. The perfect place for a lovely walk.
Dogs and cyclists are not allowed in the Julianapark. Do you live nearby with children? The Julianapark is the big back garden for families with children. The animal meadow & the play meadow are big favourites.

Since 28 October 2014, the Julianapark has been a municipal monument. Utrecht has three other monumental city parks: the Wilhelminapark, the Zocherpark & part of Park Oog in Al.

The Antje Drijver Pavilion has recently been taken over by Jolien. For local residents young and old, Jolien organises activities such as park walks, yoga, bootcamp for over-60s, guitar workshops, painting workshops, freerunning and Easter egg hunts. Every park visitor can also drop into the pavilion for a cup of coffee, a soft drink, an ice cream or a sandwich. Next to the Pavilion there's also a restaurant. Restaurant het Julianapark, a Chinese restaurant that also serves sushi. There are also more and more festivals. For example Tapt festival, a craft beer festival.
The Julianapark is unknown to many, but certainly much loved. The park is fantastic. You can find everything you need there. Want to have a picnic in the park? Then pop into Familie van Rijk and fill your basket with goodies for the most delicious picnic.
