Jeroen and Carlijn opened The Food Club on 5 March 2018. The Food Club is the neighbourhood's second living room, a lovely place to catch up, work, eat, or drink wine at the bar and fill in as much of the wine bingo card as you can! Carlijn and Jeroen are incredibly hospitable. They work incredibly hard and are almost always there themselves. They know what is going on in their guests' lives and are almost as excited as you are when you've bought a new house, are moving in together or want to throw a party.
The Food Club
The Food Club: they don't advertise it, but The Food Club is completely gluten-free. And not just because it's so trendy… And no, that doesn't mean tasteless, it's absolutely delicious. You'll find fluffy pancakes, poke bowls, avo toast and the most delicious macarons. You might also know Carlijn from her blog for people with food intolerances: Foodless. Rensje and Carlijn are in the kitchen, making the tastiest things. My personal favourite, sometimes very naughty, really is the falafel and the sweet potato fries. I don't have a gluten intolerance myself, but my gut does struggle a lot with wheat. They also have delicious bitterballen and craft beers. At The Food Club you'll also find the neighbourhood board. A bit like the notice board at the Appie (Albert Heijn), but hip and for regulars. So if you're looking for a room, want to sell your son's or daughter's bike or want to promote a good initiative, pin a note on the neighbourhood board and let the neighbours know what's going on in the area! Every now and then you can also join the pub quiz or other events.
The Amsterdamsestraatweg on the up
You need quite a bit of nerve to open your new business on the Amsterdamsestraatweg in 2018. Back then the neighbourhood was already up-and-coming. But together with Familie van Rijk, they were one of the first hip businesses to dare to do it. Carlijn hopes the Amsterdamsestraatweg will take on a bit of the look and feel of the Adriaen van Ostadelaan. Nice shops, hip little businesses, good bars and restaurants. More good bars and restaurants on the Amsterdamsestraatweg will strengthen each other. She is glad that the municipality is investing in the Amsterdamsestraatweg.
On top of that, you can see the neighbourhood changing, with more and more young couples and incredibly sociable people moving in. If you've bought a house and you come to celebrate at The Food Club, you always get a glass of cava as a warm welcome to the neighbourhood. That's what it's all about: a warm welcome and a lovely living room for the neighbourhood. They see more and more young couples coming to live in the area. Because of this, they are really seeing the neighbourhood change.
The most beautiful spots in Utrecht
When asked what they think are the most beautiful spots in Utrecht, the answer comes very quickly, with a very puzzled look. Our terrace, of course, what else? In the morning you can sit here in the sunshine, enjoying your breakfast. All sorts of things pass by and it's a wonderful place for people-watching. What more could you want?
