3 reasons why you'll want to live in De Meern

Many people want to live in Utrecht's city centre. But at today's prices that's sometimes almost impossible. Especially if you're looking for a nice, somewhat bigger house to live in with your family. That's why many people look at the surrounding villages and towns.

1. Everything is close by

De Meern was built as a place for families to live. So the amenities are geared to that. Supermarkets, restaurants and healthcare are around the corner. And everything from childcare to primary and secondary school. Your kids won't have to cycle anywhere near as far to school as we used to! The many sports clubs in De Meern are also within cycling or walking distance. A fun fact is that De Meern has one of the biggest football clubs in the Netherlands. It's also incredibly safe. So you can send your children out with peace of mind. And since De Meern is still very much developing, there will only be more amenities to come. Do you know Castellum yet? Children can play here and parents can have a great time too. There are no fewer than 3 places to eat and drink. Brouwerij Maximus is our favourite.

2. Always easy to reach

De Meern is super easy to reach. Do you always take the train to work? Then you get on at Leidsche Rijn station. Or do you go by car? Then you're on the A12 in no time, and from there you can go in any direction. You're in Amsterdam in no time at all. By car you're at the Zuidas in approx. 30 minutes. Living in a village next to the city of Utrecht has even more advantages. For example, you can park for free outside your door and you don't have to join the back of the queue to get out of the neighbourhood. And on your day off, do you still want to seek out the bustling cosiness of Utrecht city centre? Then you can cycle to the centre in 30 minutes. Don't feel like going into the city centre? It's a 15-minute bike ride to Leidsche Rijn Centrum.

3. Nature a stone's throw away

With all those amenities and good transport links, we can imagine you're picturing De Meern as rather grey. But nothing could be further from the truth. Around the neighbourhoods and between the streets, there's greenery everywhere. There are sprawling parks, lots of ditches and (foot)bridges. By bike or on foot you're often at the supermarket faster than if you take the car. You'll find a small playground on almost every street corner. On the edge of De Meern lies the Strijkviertel recreational lake, and in the middle of the village is the Kloosterpark, where there's an ice rink in winter. How much more varied can it get?! In less than 20 minutes by bike you're at the Haarrijnse plas lake. That means relaxing at Beachhouse Key West. Last, but certainly not least, we have to mention the Maximapark. This park is so versatile that it even has its own website. You can go walking, inline skating, swimming, eat out, visit a Japanese garden or a butterfly garden, and so on. Even better than telling you everything here is discovering it for yourself.
